Cruising on the MSC Seascape: A First-Timer's Honest Review

If you’ve been eyeing the sleek and modern MSC Seascape and wondering what it’s really like to sail on this ship—this blog is for you. I just returned from a sailing aboard Seascape and let me say this: it was a mix of impressive moments, a few frustrations, and lots of learning.

Would I cruise MSC again? Yes—in certain situations. But let’s break it down.

✨ The Highlights

Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve: A stunning private island in the Bahamas, with calm turquoise waters and plenty of time in port to truly enjoy it. We loved having the option to go back and forth to the ship, and the day bed was absolutely worth it for a shaded, relaxing retreat. While the island could use better signage, the provided transportation helped us explore with ease, and lunch—classic burgers and fries—hit the spot.

Le Cabaret Rouge: This venue is a real gem on the ship. The entertainment was top-notch, featuring a variety of performances—acrobats, singers, and dancers that made you feel like you were in a European night club. The energy was high, and the talent was undeniable. Don’t miss it.

Gelato: Let’s get this out of the way—MSC knows how to do gelato. Creamy, flavorful, and worth every bit of the $4. This was a daily treat I looked forward to.

Outdoor Pool Decks & Infinity Pools: The ship boasts several pools, and the infinity pools are especially stunning with gorgeous ocean views. It’s a vibe. Whether you’re lounging or swimming, this is where MSC shines.

Specialty Restaurant Breakfasts (at Port): On port days, Butcher’s Cut and Hola! Tacos offer complimentary breakfast. This was a relaxing, less crowded way to start the day and a welcome surprise.

Automated Elevators & Fast Port Days: Getting on and off the ship at ports was surprisingly smooth. The automated elevators also helped move crowds efficiently once you got used to them.

Silent Disco & Theme Parties: The White Party and 70s/80s night brought out the fun side of MSC. And the silent party? Iconic. Grab headphones, pick your vibe, and dance like no one’s watching.

😬 The Not-So-Great

App Needs Help: The app is clunky and unclear. You can scan a QR code to view the room service menu, but you still have to call in your order. Why not just let us place the order on the app? MSC, take notes from the competition.

Casino Smoke Not Just in the Casino: This was a real issue. The casino is “open” to multiple floors. I was on deck 8 and could smell the smoke wafting from the casino on deck 5. There were more designated smoking areas on this ship than I’ve seen on any other line, and that made some areas less enjoyable.

Customer Service = Meh: Ordered a second blanket? Never got it. Asked to be contacted about excursion changes? Crickets. While the crew was pleasant, the follow-through was inconsistent.

Chef’s Table – Not What You Think: This experience fell short. Despite being a premium option, you don’t walk through the kitchen, and depending on where you're seated, you may not even see the cooking in action. Not worth the splurge in my opinion.

Wi-Fi is Weak: Not strong enough to work or even scroll comfortably. If you need to stay connected for business or content creation, this will be frustrating.

Limited Excursions: The port excursions felt limited and uninspired compared to other cruise lines. Definitely do your research ahead of time or consider booking your own tours independently.

💸 Extra Costs to Note

  • Movies in the room: $10

  • Gelato: $4

  • Second entrée at dinner: $5

  • Express shuttle to airport (2 ppl): $25

  • Private car to airport: $35

  • Spa services: 40% off on the last day

🛏 Cabin Life

The rooms are modern and well-designed, but not without quirks. Some basics, like a second blanket or prompt service requests, were not guaranteed. Also—if you like to order in-room food, the system is unnecessarily complicated.

🚨 Quick Tips

  • Don’t count on Wi-Fi.

  • Bring your own hand sanitizer. The dispensers were fewer than expected.

  • Earliest disembarkation: 7:30am. Uber to the Miami airport was $30.

  • You can leave your bags the night before disembarking and enjoy the lounge until your group is called—great if you have a later pickup.

🧳 Final Thoughts: Who Should Sail MSC Seascape?

  • New to cruising? You might not notice the quirks. You’ll likely enjoy the aesthetics, food variety, and entertainment.

  • Is this your one big trip of the year? Maybe skip it. Some of the service gaps and upcharges might leave a bad taste if this is your once-a-year escape.

  • Diehard Carnival/Disney/Royal fan? You’ll find yourself constantly comparing, which could keep you from fully enjoying the experience.

  • Experienced cruiser with an open mind? Go for it. This is a solid option if you’re curious, flexible, and up for something a little different.

🚢 Final Verdict

MSC Seascape offers stunning aesthetics, exciting shows, and unique experiences—but it’s not without its growing pains. The cruise is what you make of it. If you approach it with flexibility, a touch of patience, and realistic expectations, you might just enjoy yourself.

Would I sail MSC again? Yes, in certain situations—maybe for a short getaway, a girlfriend trip, or a cruise where I just want to chill by the pool with gelato in hand and no schedule to follow.

Let it be what it’s going to be—and you just might have a good time.
